SHARE A SQUARE

A stitch in time saves lives

Share a Square is a Banglore-based student-run initiative that aims to unite the hand-crafters of India for a good cause: providing hand-made blankets and ponchos to the homeless.

ABOUT

For most of us, winter is all about cuddling under warm handmade blankets, drinking hot chocolate, and bringing out our favorite ponchos from the back of our closets. But for those on the streets, with every drop in the temperature, it’s a fight for survival.

There is no better gift than providing warmth to the needy during winter season. Lakhs of homeless people experience the bitterness of winter and are at a great risk of suffering from severe illnesses. The rise in air pollution levels and the predicted early onset of winter this year have made me realize how integral it is that we take action in the smallest ways we can to help them battle the cold.

Approximately 7 rows of a granny square (depends on the consistency of the wool). Feel free to experiment with any type of granny square so long as it meets the size requirements.

Embroidery Set

Approximately 50-55 cast-ons are required(adjustable according to wool size). Feel free to knit, purl or to use your creativity and form fancy patterns.

From Tanya

Any old cloth can be used for embroidery, but please ensure it is washed and clean. Stitch the hemline in and use your creativity to stitch anything on the square for aesthetic purposes, though this is not necessary.
